Detroit Symphony Orchestra concertmaster to leave for position with Dallas Symphony

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra is losing its highest-ranking musician, a significant artistic blow as the orchestra seeks to heal the wounds left by the epic six-month musicians’ strike that ended in April.
Concertmaster Emmanuelle Boisvert, 47, first violinist of the DSO for 23 years and known for the refined elegance of her playing and her strong leadership of the string section, will become associate concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in September.

“I’m very saddened to leave Detroit, but I think the orchestra has reached rock bottom, and from here it’s uphill and that we’ll be very successful,” Boisvert said during the interview. “During the work stoppage we realized that the audience was not going to let us die. We survived, and I think everyone is committed to a brighter future. The board is committed, the musicians are committed and so is Leonard Slatkin.”
