The Firework hitmaker did not have time to appear alongside current panellists Tulisa Contostavlos, Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh on the ITV1 show – and she thought it would be 'unfair' to judge contestants she doesn't know much about.
She told Real Radio: 'I would have loved to but I just didn't have time.
'I might have felt out of the loop as it's not the beginning. I wouldn't want to be an unfair critic by not knowing the artists' history.'
The 27-year-old stunner appeared as a guest judge during the audition stages in last year's competition – and she admitted some of the X Factor wannabes are chosen just for people to laugh at, while she would rather see people who have a serious chance of success on the programme.
Asked if she thought it is mean when a bad wannabe is deliberately put through, she replied: 'Yeah. They did that when I was there and it wasn't us who did it. It was the behind-the-scenes people.
'All of us were sitting there like, 'Can we continue with the real show please?' We were all looking for talent so that's obviously kind of a prank.'
