Justin Bieber Not Allowed to Believe in Santa Claus as a Kid

Justin Bieber was never allowed to believe in Santa Claus when he was a kid. So is that why he's so obsessed with the holiday now?

Justin enjoys the company of St. Nick so much now that he transformed himself into a claymation character to hang out with the redheaded Rankin/Bass version of the jolly old elf in his "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" music video. He's also joined Santa at the Disney Christmas parade and hung out with Mariah Carey in a sexy Santa suit. So it's safe to say he's certainly a fan of the man.

However, Justin Bieber hasn't always been allowed to sing the praises of Santa Claus. He recently revealed that his mother Pattie never let him believe in St. Nick when he was a child because she wanted him to believe in God instead.

According to MTV, this is what the Biebs had to say about his mother's reason for revealing the truth about Santa Claus to him: "My mom always told me there wasn't a Santa. This was her logic: she thought if I grew up knowing about Santa then finding out he wasn't real, that it would be like she was lying to me. And then when she told me about God, I maybe wouldn't believe her. So she just wanted to be straight-up and honest with me all the time. But I didn't tell my friends or ruin it for anyone - I was a good kid!"

Her reasoning does kind of make sense - when parents encourage kids to believe in a being they can't see like Santa and then reveal later on that he's not real, they could start questioning the existence of God, too. But perhaps Justin Bieber regrets missing out on believing in the magic of Christmas now that he's older - he seems to be trying very hard to recreate that excited feeling it gives kids in his music and his music videos.

Justin knowing the truth probably also helped Pattie Bieber avoid pressure to buy him a lot of presents - she didn't have a lot of money when he was born, so telling Justin that she would be the one responsible for buying him gifts made him know not to expect too much. She was also smart by making sure that her son didn't spoil Christmas for all the other girls and boys he grew up with.

So what do you think of the decision Justin Bieber's mom made? Was it right for her to make sure that he didn't believe in Santa as a child, or does Justin really feel like he missed out on a fun part of being a kid now that he's older?
