Russell Brand Opens Up About Katy Perry Divorce

Comedian Russell Brand went on Howard Stern's Sirius/XM radio show thinking he was going to promote his new FX show "Brand X."

Instead, Stern peppered the funnyman with dozens of questions about the details of the divorce as Brand tried to resist the classic Howard charm with self-deprecation and honesty about the split.

"I loved her so much, it just seemed like the sensible thing to do [when we got married] ... I just loved her so much," Brand said about the "overwhelming" sense of affection he had for the singer when they tied the knot in India
two years ago. But once they were husband and wife, Brand admitted that he realized, "this isn't really working out, it's a difficult situation ... I was really, really in love with her, but it was difficult to see each other ... We were together when it was right to be together, and when it wasn't we worked it out ... It was a lovely relationship ... it mostly didn't work for practical reasons ... We did work it out, she's happy, I'm happy." With Brand working on movies and Perry in the studio and on the road, the long distance relationship thing just took a toll on the couple. "She's young, successful and dedicated," he said of his former wife's ambition and drive. "[The reality is] you can't fully understand it until you do it. I was really into the idea of marriage and having children."

Brand said he's still dedicated to the idea of being a dad and revealed that he and Perry did discuss starting a family, but he declined to give any details about those talks in order to avoid bruising feelings. "I don't want anything to hurt her," he said. "She's younger than me, she's a young woman and she's beautiful and she's sensitive and I care about her deeply ... I don't want to be too glib," he said about fears that Perry would read second-hand tabloid accounts of his Stern interview that will twist his words around. "She'll read it and she'll be sad and I don't want that."

Katy Perry Goes Makeup-Free in New Movie

Katy Perry is stripping down — in so many words — for her upcoming 3-D documentary Part of Me, in theaters this summer.

In a clip that aired last week on Ellen, fans were able to catch a glimpse of the Firework singer without any makeup on, as she prepared for a recent performance.

Remarkably, Katy, 27 — who has been glamming it up lately, at such recent events as the 2012 Billboard Music Awards — looked just as good dolled down as she does when she gets all dolled up on the red carpet. Whatever her secret is, we hope she’ll share it with us soon!

Katy Perry Wraps New Video For Complete Confection Track

Katy Perry has some news for her Katy Cats. She just wrapped up production on a brand-spankin'-new music video. The singer tweeted about the shoot, teasing that the video will play some part in her forthcoming 3-D big-screen spectacle "Katy Perry: Part of Me," out in July.

"3rd long ass day of shooting ... the new music video!!!!! #workinggirl," she tweeted late Wednesday. "About to shoot one of the last scenes for the music video ... I have to pick a costume from the Cali Dreams Tour, which would u pick? #KP3D."

Katy Perry 3-D concert movie to be released in July

The makers of Justin Bieber's top-grossing concert film have moved on to another global pop star -- Katy Perry.

A 3-D documentary concert feature film billed as an on-and- off stage close up look at Perry and her 2011 California Dreams Tour began production more than year ago, Paramount Pictures said in a statement on Wednesday.

The movie, called "Katy Perry: Part of Me," is named after her new single "Part of Me," which was released in February and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100.

The film, which will be released in cinemas in the United States on July 5, is being produced by Perry and directed by Jane Lipsitz and Dan Cutforth.

Perry, 27, said in the statement she was excited to "reveal the highs and lows and nuts of bolts of this extraordinary ride. I promise you, after seeing this film, you will truly know me."

Paramount and Perry, whose last album "Teenage Dream," produced such hits as "Firework", "California Gurls" and "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)," teamed up for what is being promoted as the first big screen look at Perry's life and 124 performances on her tour.

Paramount and Lipsitz and Cutforth co-produced and distributed Bieber's concert film, "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never," which grossed nearly $100 million worldwide on a budget of $13 million.

A trailer for Perry's movie promised details on her religious upbringing, her struggles and pressures becoming a pop star, her marriage breakup with actor Russell Brand, as well as tour footage, including her telling the audience, "Thank you so much for believing in my weirdness."

Katy Perry Isn't Looking To Top Herself On Next Album

One would think that after Katy Perry releases Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, the final chapter of her highly successful album Teenage Dream, later this month, she would be ready to take a break.

Think again.

Following the chart-topping success of her single "Part of Me," which she insists is not a jab at former husband Russell Brand, Perry has already begun thinking about the concept of her next album.

"I don't want to jinx myself 'cause I haven't stepped into the studio. I have an idea — I always have an idea. Like, I have an idea for the next two records; it just depends," Perry told MTV News in Los Angeles. "What I say is, I'm gonna kind of put my finger out there and test the pulse or test the waters of what the world wants, or what I need to say, which is probably most important rather than what the world wants."

Coming off the success of Teenage Dream, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart and produced five #1 singles, Perry is not looking to outdo herself on her next musical effort. She's just going to follow her instincts.

"I don't want to give too much away. I also don't want to play the game of trying to continually top myself because eventually it may not always go as I planned," the singer said. "I may not get to be able to have another #1, so I'm just gonna do what feels right for me artistically. I'm very inspired at the moment, and so I'm gonna follow my heart as I always have and hopefully people will like it."

Perry, who also revealed that she "has a lot to say" on her next album, told "Saturday Night Live" star Kristen Wiig in Interview magazine that her music is "about to get real f---ing dark." But she promises that her die-hard fans will still be able to relate to this next step in her musical journey.

"I imagine that maybe my next record would be a little bit more of an artistic venture," Perry said. "Not that I'm going to self-sabotage either and be like, 'I'm going to make a crazy record that nobody really understands.' "

Katy Perry's New Album Will Feature Darker Music Like Her Grammy Song, 'Part of Me'

Interview Magazine Katy Perry Cover - P 2012

Katy Perry is going to a darker place in her music, perhaps to exorcise a certain demon named -- shall we guess? -- Russell Brand.
The former brightly colored "California Gurl" pop singer posed for an uncharistically moody, unsmiling black and white photo shoot for Interview, including a series of burlesque-inspired shots inside the mag.

On the cover, she looks almost unrecognizable -- more like Megan Fox then herself -- with thick cat eye liner, a teased Amy Winehouse-style beehive, a studded sparkly bra, black elbow length globes and long dangling earrings.

Inside Perry talks to Kristen Wiig about how her recent break-up will affect the songs she now writes and performs. She says: ‘Well, my music is about get real f---king dark. I'll be shoe-gazing. You'll never see my face because my hair is in my face.’"

We could have predicted after seeing her angry Grammy growl in "Part of Me," which sounded inspired by her breakup with Brand.

"You're not gonna break my soul," Perry sang. "Your love was cheap, was always tearing at the seam. I feel deep and you let me down. But that was then and this is now."

She also sang almost directly to Brand: "You can keep the diamond ring. It don't mean nothing anyway. In fact you can keep everything. Yeah, yeah, except for me."

That track will be on the extended version of Teenage Dream, set for release, March 13.
Hey, writing about creepy ex beaus seems to work just out fine for Taylor Swift.

Katy Perry to Release 'Teenage Dream' Special Edition in March

"Teenage Dream," Katy Perry's sophomore album which spawned a record-tying five No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, will be rereleased as a special edition on March 27. "Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection" will feature three new songs, as well as four re-workings of her "Dream" hits, along with the entirety of the original album.

"Confection" will include the Kanye West-assisted version of Perry's single "E.T.," the remix of "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" featuring Missy Elliott, a Jon Brion-produced acoustic version of "The One That Got Away," and a 7-minute Tommie Sunshine mega-mix of the album's six singles. The three new songs do not yet have announced titles, although two Perry tracks, "Dressing Up" and "Part of Me," surfaced online last month before being hastily removed.

"This is the complete story of 'Teenage Dream,'" says Perry -- who tied Michael Jackson's "Bad" last year by scoring five Hot 100 No. 1 singles from a single album -- in a press release. "It was an incredible honor to tie the King of Pop's Billboard Hot 100 record, but I'm moving forward and had a few things left to get off my chest.  So this is the complete special edition of my album for my fans."

(Perry and Jackson will remain tied for the most Hot 100 toppers from any album regardless of the performance of any singles from "Confection." Should any song released from "Confection" reach No. 1, it would count as a Hot 100 No. 1 from "Confection" and not "Dream").

Perry is scheduled to perform at the Grammy Awards ceremony for the second straight year this Sunday (Feb. 12). The pop star is nominated for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for "Firework," one year after earning six nominations, including Album of the Year for "Teenage Dream."

Katy Perry's Hair: Why So Blue?

Over the weekend, Katy Perry debuted another shade of blue hair in Las Vegas. The newer, bluer hair was more turquoise than the look she had sported weeks before on the set of an Adidas commercial.

Katy is constantly changing her hair color from black to blond to pink, and seemingly every shade in between. These days, however, it seems she's settled on blue. So, when MTV News spoke to her longtime hair colorist, Rita Hazan, she gave us the low-down on why Ms. Perry is feeling so blue these days.

"Of course, being Katy, she is a lot more edgy and she's cooler and she likes to take a lot of risks. And I love that she's like, 'I'm feeling a little blue, let's go blue' — not in her energy, just in her hair color," Hazan explained to MTV News about the pop star's current hair-color choice. "I felt like it's the perfect color for her because her eyes are blue and she has the perfect skin tone to be a really vibrant, really cool, intense blue."
When Hazan first heard about Perry's decision to deepen her locks to blue, she wanted her to be a "cobalt blue, muted cobalt blue; it's really cool. It took me three days to come up with this color. I'm so obsessed with it. It's like the wallpaper for my iPhone."

Since then, the color has lightened up a bit, but regardless of the shade, the hair still has everyone buzzing. "I was shocked by all the crazy reactions that people had to the blue 'cause I thought going from black to pink would have been the major reaction people would have," she said. "But I kind of like that people are loving the blue 'cause I'm obsessed with blue. So any shade of blue, I'm loving. I know it's not natural, but it sort of works in a natural way."

Of course, her hair color might have something to do with her recent split from Russell Brand. Kimberley Pierce, a colorist at Ion Studio in New York City, explained that she's seen many a newly single chick come in and change up their mood with some new hair color. "They'll come in for a consult and say, 'My boyfriend and I just broke up and I want brown hair' and they're a blonde," she said, adding that she usually has some advice for those rash decisions. "The best thing we can do for them is tell them to try a wig on first."
Whatever Katy's reason for the shocking, eye-catching color change, Pierce added that it really works for her.

"I kind of like that she got away from the pink because I feel like we've seen that so much. With the blue, it's more vibrant and definitely she's on her own with it," she said. "She's kind of all the way in with the blue. She's kind of this candy-coated sort of person. So I guess blue would be the natural transition, or purple. It's nice to see her experiment with different things."

Katy Perry, a no-show at People's Choice Awards, wins five of 'em

Katy Perry is in the popular clique now.

The singer-actress won the most People's Choice Awards at Wednesday's 38th annual fan-favorite extravaganza, but viewers wouldn't have known it from watching the ceremony. An absentee Perry was honored in five categories, including favorite female artist, tour headliner, song of the year for "E.T." with Kanye West, music video for "Last Friday Night" and TV guest star for "How I Met Your Mother."

Despite originally being touted by the show's organizers as among the nominees expected to attend, Perry told fans on Twitter earlier this week that she wouldn't make it to the show but that "I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed!" It would have marked Perry's first public appearance since British actor-comedian Russell Brand filed for divorce from Perry last month after 14 months of marriage.

Katy Perry And Russell Brand's Split 'Upsetting,' Fans Say

It may be the beginning of a new year, but it's also the end of Katy Perry and Russell Brand's 14-month marriage. And despite the apparently steady chemistry, fans of both the stars have voiced their thoughts on the couple's sudden divorce, which was announced Friday morning.

"It's upsetting," Khrystyna Luchka, 23, told MTV News during Saturday night's "NYE in NYC 2012." "They're perfect for each other: They're quirky, and they're cute."

Another fan, Emily, confessed that it's hard to imagine the power stars without each other, saying, "I love Katy Perry, so I was just so sad because they're so funny together. I just can't see them with anyone else."

However, some weren't too saddened by the news, as one follower admitted: "Congratulations to them for making it for that long. Give it a year, I think, for anyone in Hollywood is kind of good."

As expected, the blogosphere was buzzing when news hit that Brand had filed for divorce from the pop darling, citing "irreconcilable differences." Facebook user Randy Michael Ramirez confessed that the breakup may give the pop star inspiration for her forthcoming material. "At least she'll have something to write about for her next album!" he said.

Like Ramirez, Vincent E. Onyeche tied Perry's music and personal life together, writing, " 'The One That Got Away.' She knew it was coming and sang that hit."

Fan Jessica Villarreal was disappointed with the announcement, as she admitted the duo was one of few Hollywood couples she really enjoyed: "This really makes me sad," she wrote on Facebook.

While Twitter user CheeYinYang expressed her disbelief, writing, "Whaaaaaa I don't believe it ... Well at least she didn't pull a Kim Kardashian," another fan felt that there still might be a happy ending for this California girl: "She can find better. ... She's beautiful, bubbly and he might just regret it," JR tweeted.

Katy Perry Plans to Slow Down, Hold Off on New Album

Katy Perry Plans to Slow Down, Hold Off on New Album

2011 was Katy Perry’s year. While Teenage Dream came out in 2010, the singer saw enough top hits that she tied Michael Jackson’s record for most number-one singles released from an album. Yet, while her contemporaries like Lady Gaga keep on recording and touring, Perry plans to take a break and has no immediate plans for a Teenage Dream follow-up. She said at the release of her second perfume, Meow: "I know you guys want a new record, but I have to live a little so all the songs will be something worth listening to."
As far as her plans for the immediate future, she mentioned: "I think that maybe I'm going to just think about enjoying Christmas and New Year's."

Aside from the success of Teenage Dream, the pop star recently went blond and was named MTV’s Artist of the Year. About the former, Perry explained: "I'm having fun with my hair color because...I was black-haired for 10 years. That was a long time, so I just decided to change things up, try new things and see what worked.

"Who knows? I'll probably have to shave my head one day because of all of it."

As far as her recognition from MTV is concerned, Perry accepted the award via video message. At the time, she told fans: "Hi everyone at MTV! I just want to say thank you for this amazing award. To be Artist of the Year, a whole 365 days, that's pretty cool. […] I wasn't really allowed to watch MTV growing up, so this feels really validating. And I've had a fantastic year, a great tour and a great run, and you guys have been so a part of it and such a big reason why. So thank you so much. I really appreciate it."

Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' Yields Sixth Hot 100 Top Five Hit

Not content with being honored as the Billboard Hot 100 Artist of the Year, Katy Perry continues to make her mark on the survey.

As "The One That Got Away" bounds 9-4, her "Teenage Dream" album becomes just the third in the Hot 100's 53-year history to generate at least six top five smashes.

The song joins the set's first five singles, all of which reached No. 1: "California Gurls," featuring Snoop Dogg; the title cut, "Firework"; "E.T.," featuring Kanye West; and, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)"

A complete rundown of this week's Hot 100's top 10 will follow today and all charts will be refreshed in two days (Dec. 15), as they are each Thursday, on Billboard.com.

Katy Perry's 'SNL' Florence Welch Imitation Was 'Amazing'

Last month, Florence and the Machine singer Florence Welch pulled double duty on "Saturday Night Live," not only performing but also making a rather unexpected cameo in a sketch called "New Jack Thanksgiving," during which she vamped her way through a sultry, turkey-themed R&B jam.

Of course, if you caught this past weekend's "SNL," you may have thought she showed up again, this time in a skit about a canine-centric courtroom drama called "Doggie Duty." Only it wasn't Welch: It was host Katy Perry, who nailed a note-perfect impression of Flo on a song called "The Dog Trial Is Over." Yes, it was about as random as you'd think, and yes, Welch found it to be quite amazing — even if she hadn't actually seen it yet.

"I haven't seen it yet! I've seen pictures!" she told MTV News backstage at KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas on Sunday. "I think she looks amazing! I was like, 'Yeah, that's it! You've got the hair, the dress, everything.' ... I've heard she did a really amazing job, and I'm kind of really honored."

Not only did Welch think Perry got her look just right, but, having seen everything that goes into getting a sketch on the air, she knows just how long it took to make it happen. Which is why she's doubly honored ... both by the impression and by the fact that not many folks can cameo on "SNL" without actually being there.

"We performed on 'SNL' and everyone's so nice," she said. "I sat in the writers' room with everybody when we were organizing the skit that I did, and just kind of seeing how everyone gets crowded into this tiny room and sits on the floor, and being there with all the writers and the actors, it was kind of really amazing. So I feel very honored to be part of a skit without actually being there!"

Katy Perry to Take a Year Off From Music to Start Family

Katy Perry is at the top of her game right now and is one of the most beloved females in the pop music fiefdom. While conventional wisdom might dictate that Perry should continue to strike while the iron is blazing hot, the singer is actually planning to take a step away from her music career in order to concentrate on something a little more important: family.

The New York Posts Page Six reports that once the ‘The One That Got Away’ singer completes her ‘California Dreams’ tour this week, she will take time off. The tour ran for 122 shows across the globe, as Perry cranked out No. 1 single after No. 1 single through 2010 and 2011, all the while experimenting with new hair colors and starring in the Smurfs movie. The Post indicated that Perry told her management team that she plans to take a year off so that she can start a family with her husband, actor/funnyman Russell Brand, whom she married a year ago.

While performing at NYC’s famed Madison Square Garden on Wednesday (Nov. 16), Perry joked to the crowd that she was bloated from feasting on too much New York City pizza, not because she’s preggers. Obviously, if she’s taking a year off to try and start a family with her hubby, she’ll likely hope it’ll be the other way around sooner than later.

We respect Perry’s decision to put family first and the fact that she has her priorities in line, but it wouldn’t shock us if her managers and label try and talk her out of leaving the public eye while she is such a hot commodity, since fans can be so fickle with their taste. Whatever the case, Perry has to do what is best for her.

Katy Perry: I rejected role as stand-in X Factor judge

The Firework hitmaker did not have time to appear alongside current panellists Tulisa Contostavlos, Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh on the ITV1 show – and she thought it would be 'unfair' to judge contestants she doesn't know much about.

She told Real Radio: 'I would have loved to but I just didn't have time.

'I might have felt out of the loop as it's not the beginning. I wouldn't want to be an unfair critic by not knowing the artists' history.'

The 27-year-old stunner appeared as a guest judge during the audition stages in last year's competition – and she admitted some of the X Factor wannabes are chosen just for people to laugh at, while she would rather see people who have a serious chance of success on the programme.

Asked if she thought it is mean when a bad wannabe is deliberately put through, she replied: 'Yeah. They did that when I was there and it wasn't us who did it. It was the behind-the-scenes people.

'All of us were sitting there like, 'Can we continue with the real show please?' We were all looking for talent so that's obviously kind of a prank.'

Katy Perry debuts newest music video

The music video for Katy Perry’s newest hit “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” has just been released.

 WATCH VIDEO HERE!!

The music video was originally supposed to be released on June 14, but Perry told everyone on her Facebook page that she would release it early if everyone could get #kathybethterry to trend on Twitter.
And she stayed true to her word.

The music video for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” was released on the Funny Or Die website and it lives up to its name.

The video follows Kathy Beth Terry, Perry’s alter ego, who gets pulled into attending a wild party at her neighbor’s house.

It features guest appearances from Glee’s Darren Criss and Kevin McHale, “Friday” singer Rebecca Black, the brothers of the band Hanson, Corey Feldman, Debbie Gibson, and Kenny G.

What’s so great about the music video is that it doesn’t hold back on anything. The ‘80s theme goes above and beyond and the fact that the nerdy Kathy Beth Terry does body shots off of the hunky football player makes it all the more fun.

Watch the music video for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” below and tell us what you think about it.
